Satellite Descramblers - What They are About

Many people enjoy paying for and watching satellite television, but every once in a while they hear people talk about satellite descramblers, and they wonder if these things really work. Satellite descramblers do exist, but there are a lot of reasons why you would not want to invest in one of these questionable pieces of equipment.

How do satellite descramblers work? To answer this question, it helps to know what it is that satellite television companies do to protect themselves. When most people hear about descramblers for satellite programming they automatically think of the illegal kind. The truth is, however, that the box that you rent from the satellite company in order to watch their programming is in itself a descrambler. You can have the satellite dish all set up outside of your home and the box in place and all hooked up, but without the codes that the satellite company uses with the box and remote control, you wouldnt be able to see a picture. This is why you can turn the channel to a premium one that you are not paying for and all you will see is a scrambled signal. If you started paying for that channel, the satellite company would code a signal for the box and voilathe signal is descrambled.

How the illegal kind of satellite descramblers work is that they descramble all the signals for all of the channels without the permission or the knowledge of the satellite company. These illegal descramblers usually cost people a one time charge of a few hundred dollars. They are hooked up along with the satellite system and all channels that would normally be scrambled if not paid for become unscrambled.

Satellite companies have been dealing with this problem for a long time. It is illegal to use satellite descramblers that have not been issued by the satellite television company itself. If a satellite company finds out about someone using an illegal descrambler, they can and will press legal charges against the person. The problem is that they have a difficult time finding out who the people are that have the illegal descramblers. One of the ways that they fight illegal satellite descramblers is by simply working on making their transmissions more difficult to descramble, hopefully rendering the illegal descramblers obsolete. Fortunately, satellite companies do have the means and the money to eventually stop the illegal descrambling problem.
